Technology and Early Digital Culture

Introduction

This chapter will assess the role that information and communication technologies (ICT) play in the education of young children, and specifically in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings. It is difficult to imagine a world without technology. In fact, there are few aspects of modern society that have expanded faster or had more impact on our daily lives than ICT. Young children now enter a world with intercative technology and media at its very heart, and have come to develop a greater level of comfort in using digital devices than the generations that have gone before them (Kalas,2012). These devices have revolutionised the way we acquire knowledge, communicate with each other, and, in many ways, understand the world.
